HOFELE engine tuning

There are two different ways to make the engine tuning:
- Hofele 'Dynamic Pro' - additional engine control unit
- Hofele 'Performance Package' - OBD software tuning

- The original engine setting can easily being restored by simply unplugging the additional control unit and by replacing it with a connection piece (part of the delivery). Helpful if you need the original engine setting, for example when you need to make the manufacturer service interval on your car. The removal and re-installation of the "Dynamic Pro" additional control unit just takes one or two minutes and can made by everybody.

With the Hofele" Dynamic-Pro" control unit we have reached a new level of engine optimisation. Two separate engine control units work independently. The software from the original control unit is kept in its original setting as well as the settings for the protection of the engine. The "Dynamic Pro" additional control unit analyses parameters and data, optimises them and sends the converted data to the engine. Modern engines do have a lot of unused reserves because the engines do have to work under extreme climatic conditions like extreme heat and extreme coldness but also dusty environments. Another reason are different emission values or lower fuel qualities. Due to that the engines are downgraded and do not use the available output, some engines only use 60 or 70% of the possible capacities. These reserves are used by the ‚Dynamic Pro' additional control unit to have the best possible output. Therefore increases up to 30% are possible.
Our high-tech digital electronic devises guarantee the optimisation of output, torque, fuel consumption and emission. Thanks to the car-specific wiring harness and car-specific plugs the "Dynamic Pro" additional control unit can easily being installed by skilled persons: Just plug the wiring harness (Y-wire) in between the Common-Rail (Diesel engine) or the fuel-injection system, then plug-in the additional control unit and that's it. A detailed installation guide is part of the delivery. Even tough the installation is easy-going we recommend to have the module installed by professionals. The needed installation time is approx. ten minutes. For the additional control unit we do offer a warranty of two years. A warranty for the engine and gear is available separately.
The second engine tuning option by Hofele-Design is the optimisation of the original engine control unit software via the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) gateway. This OBD gateway is serial on all cars starting from the year 2000 and is located inside the drivers compartment, underneath the dashboard or in the middle console. Via this gateway and a special OBD tool the original software can be copied and also overwritten. This kind of engine tuning optimises the original software and therefore cannot be seen as there is no additional control unit and no additional wiring harness.
This engine tuning can only be made directly at Hofele-Design in Germany or at local foreign dealers if they do have the needed hardware and flash tools.
Procedure for external dealers / body shops:
- the original engine software is copied via the OBD gateway (flash tool needed)
- the copied software file is send to us via email
- we do the software optimisation
- the optimised software file is send back via email
- the optimised software is written onto the original control unit via the OBD gateway (flash tool needed)
The optimisation of the software file takes approx. two hours.
If the engine tuning is made directly at our facilities there is of course no need to send the file via email.
After the software has been copied the car can still be driven.
Available flash tools:
These flash tools can be used for almost every car with OBD gateway and can be ordered from us. If you order a flash tool you receive one engine tuning for free. The engine tuning via OBD has the same advantages like the above named "Dynamic Pro" engine tuning.

Additional arguments for the 'Hofele Performance Package' - engine tuning:
On some cars with Diesel engines from 2009 onwards the software might be copy protected so that the software cannot be copied via the OBD gateway. In this case the original engine control unit has to be removed and opened to copy the software directly from the control unit and to write it back onto it. You may inquire the exact tuning data if you send us an email with your car type and engine version.
